The Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter (YVAS) is a 501c-3 Non-Profit committed to the humane treatment of lost and transitioning animals in the city of Billings.  With compassion and without judgment, we provide a respectful and safe environment for companion animals and for the people who surround those animals.  Since our inception in 2007, we have grown to become the largest-volume shelter in the entire state of Montana; intaking approximately 5,000 animals per year.  On any given day, YVAS houses over 100 animals in the shelter and has an average of 70 additional animals in our Foster Care Program. 

Within the last year, YVAS has seen many positive changes including the hire of a new Executive Director and leadership team.  We have partnered with the University of Wisconsin Shelter Medicine Program to improve our medical protocols and practices.  YVAS has also implemented more adoption incentives and promotions than ever before; including a new Barn Cat Program for feral cats.  These efforts have saved the lives of hundreds of animals who would’ve been turned away from other rescues or euthanized.  There is always room for improvement, but we are taking tangible steps to become a better shelter for our animals, our staff, and the Billings community.
